Red Square Day

On Wednesday, about 100 children from all across the school, travelled to Nelson, to take part in a Westpac Red Square Performance. Our show started with the room 1, 2 and 3 children performing three songs. After rapturous applause, they were replaced by the Twenty 11 group, and then the Senior ukulele group (with back-up singers) and finally the Kapahaka group. The performance finished with a very powerful and moving haka, which had the crowd cheering and clapping. All the children did incredibly well on stage, and were a real credit to the school.
For the room 1, 2 and 3 children, the day was not over, as we then headed to Natureland for the afternoon. The children had a great time checking out all the animals, and it was a brilliant way to cap off a fantastic day.
Thank you to our helpful parents who took the time to come and share our day, and also to Mr Fitz and Mrs Wilkinson for all the effort they have put in, and to Kevin, Loufi and Margaret for all they have done with the Kapahaka group.

All Blacks Visit

Today we were visited by Ben Franks and Ali Williams as part of the "All Blacks Coming To A Town Near You" campaign. Throughout the country, All Blacks were visiting the smaller towns in NZ, and getting to see slices of rural life. Lower Moutere was one of only a small handful of schools in all of NZ to get a visit; an incredible opportunity for our community. Ben Franks spoke of his delight at getting to come back to the school where it all began for him, and even seeing the teacher who first taught him! (That was Mrs Wilkinson, by the way). The pair were presented with Lower Moutere tops, signed by all the students, before they were on the recieving end (for a change) of a haka . Then they joined in with some rugby games, before posing for photos and signing some autographs. The kids (and adults) had a great time hanging out with their rugby heroes, and we wish them all the best for a successful challenge at the Rugby World Cup.

Term3 Week 5

Well, this term is half over already, and it feels like it only just started! The exciting news is that the All Blacks (Ben Franks and Ali Williams) are due to arrive tomorrow! We are especially thrilled to have Ben coming, as he is a former LMS student (so the rumour goes...) and he has first cousins here at school, including our very own Corey!
Hopefully there will be heaps of wonderful photos and comments on here from tomorrow, really soon.
We have also had a new arrival in Room 3, Quinn, who has joined us from Nelson Central School. Welcome, Quinn, we hope you are settling in to the Lower Moutere Lifestyle!

Term 3 Already!

Well, Term 3 is under way, and it looks like being another busy time for staff and students alike. With the countdown to the Rugby World Cup getting us closer and closer to All Black domination, it was great to hear that LMS was going to be a part of the All Blacks Pre-Cup tour. Yes, on September 2nd we will be visited by an All Black and other members of the All Black entourage. It promises to be an exciting time for everyone.
There will be many other fun and amazing things happening this term; in fact the children have just completed a 2 week gymnastics programme which was enjoyed by all. It taught the children some terrific skills, by pushing them mentally and physically. Thank you Nic for organising and running that. We also welcome to Room 3 Corey, Zarrie and Ben, who have joined us from Room 2. They have made a good start to this term, along with the rest of the class.
The year seems to be flying by, but I guess that means we are having fun...

Are we really nearing the end of Term 2?

Well, in a word, YES! You know what they say, "Time flies when you're having fun." We have been really busy this term and it's not looking like easing up at all, so the remaining few weeks are sure to race by! We have had a (planned!) visit from some firemen, done some terrific cinquain-style poems about disasters (I hope to get some examples up here...) and are currently half way through our Kia Kaha unit, which deals with the problem of bullying. And with many cool activities still to come (Matariki Lantern making for example) and more Kia Kaha and Disaster topic work, plus a unit on Firewise, there will be some worn out kids by the holidays! And then there's reading, writing, maths, spelling, handwriting...

Cross Country

Well, the 2011 cross country has come and gone, and the Room 3 children shone, with their effort and enthusiasm showing on their faces. Here are a few photos of them (and others) to prove my point.

Term 2 underway.

Well, the second term has begun and this one looks to be as busy as term 1. It is another 11 week term, and it is already filling up with things such as visits from Bunnies with degrees, cross country runs and clubs!
Also, we welcome to our class Jack Fowler, a new student who has joined us from Blenheim.

BYE GEORGIA!!

At the end of term one we said farewell to Georgia, as she and her family (Andrea, Marcus and Tyler) headed up north to Taranaki. We will miss having Georgia in Room 3- her warm smile and caring personality will be greatly missed. Good luck at your new school!

Week 11 already!!

Well, it seems a long time since the last entry, and many things have been and gone in that time, but before we sign off on Term 1 there are a few photos we would like to share.
